• Vinification techniques: Fermentation in French oak barrels and aging of the wine with wine lees for approximately 6 months (method "sur lies").
• Production: 40.000 bottles.
• Technical data: 14% vol, acidity: 6.6 gr/lt.
• Organoleptic characteristics: Bright gold and blonde color, with discreet presence of wood on a citrus background and an elegant whole, with balance, thickness, good acidity and lengthy finish with a characteristic minerality, typical of the variety, at its very best.
• Aging potential: Over 7 years.
• Serving Suggestions: Fish and white meat with white piquant sauces, smoked cheese and smoked salmon served at 12° C.
• Location of vineyard: Santorini, Oia, Imerovigli (in the northern part of the island).
• Soil:Consists of fragments of black lava, volcanic ash and pumice. It is classified as sandy for purposes of its mechanical properties. It is poor in organic substances and nitrogen, with minimal clay and a negligible CaCo3 content.
• Age of vines: Over 50 years.
• Yield in hl per hectare: 18–30hl.
• Harvest: Mid August.  
• Packaging: Boxes of 12 bottles, sideways (0.75lt)

Sigalas 2003 Oaked Santorini 17.5 Drink 2005-07
Still a bit oaky on the nose but good minerality. Deep flavoured and not excessively oaked but on the basis of previous vintages it should definitely be left alone for a while.

More complete than the unoaked 2001 at this stage. Smooth and still exciting. Very good with food. Lots of personality - far from smothered by oak, as oaked versions can taste at a younger stage. Deep extract and minerality.

“Vinalies Internationales 2007”
A great award for Domain Sigalas 

Athens 28 March 2007: A great distinction was awarded to Domain Sigalas in the “Vinalies Internationales 2007” awards, hosted by Union des Oenologues de France, which is one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world. Specifically, the «Sigalas Santorini BARREL 2003» brought home one of the 7 Trophies of the competition, getting the highest score  -89/100 - in the Classification «Dry White wine».

«A great and elegant wine worth discovering», were some of the judges comments on «Sigalas Santorini BARREL 2003», while in their organoleptic descriptions they note «…A bright golden-yellow colour. A nose with intense notes of oak wood and a high level and sophisticated bouquet, where ripe fruit co-exist in harmony with hints of spices.  Fullandroundinflavor, withacharmingandsensualpaletteofaromas». As one of the trophy holders of the competition, «Sigalas Santorini BARREL 2003» will be included in the annual publication «1000 Vins du Monde" for 2007.
